Description

Red-hot first year Claiborne Farm sire CATHOLIC BOY boasts a versatile pedigree, evidenced by his Grade 1 wins on BOTH turf and dirt during his sophomore year, joining California Chrome and the legendary Secretariat as the only three-year-old colts to capture Grade 1 events on both surfaces. A son of the supersire MORE THAN READY, CATHOLIC BOY lived up to high expectations right from the start. After breaking his maiden at first asking, he went straight into graded stakes company and passed the test in the 1 1/16-mile With Anticipation Stakes (G3T) on the turf at Saratoga Race Course. He capped his juvenile season with his debut on dirt, winning the Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack. At 3, he went on to prove his versatility, returning to the turf to take the Pennine Ridge Stakes (G3T) in a thriller over previously undefeated Analyze It. The two renewed their rivalry in the Belmont Derby (G1), with CATHOLIC BOY emerging victorious again. He further proved he was among the top of his crop when he returned to the dirt to win the Travers Stakes (G1) at the classic 1 1/4-mile distance. When he returned at 4, CATHOLIC BOY added the Dixie Stakes (G2T) to his résumé, going 1 1/16 miles on turf at Pimlico Race Course. Now as his first yearlings hit the sales ring, they show the same kind of promise, commanding prices such as $300k, $185k, $170k, $160k, $150k, etc.

This lovely filly is just the first foal out of the SPEIGHTSTOWN mare CHEERS TO THAT, who is an own daughter of the multiple Graded stakes-winning mare TANNERY (IRE), with a family stocked full with European black type.
